Natural Phenomena

As any East Villager can tell you, crystals often form in nature when liquids cool and start to harden. Certain molecules in the liquid gather together as they attempt to become stable. They do this in a uniform and repeating pattern that forms the crystal.

East Villagers know this because, with all the snow and cold temperatures we've had lately, we've seen it first hand, such as these crystals I saw today while walking across St. Mark's Place:

The flat surfaces are called facets. They can form geometric shapes such as triangles, rectangles, and squares (seen above).
