Gelato for Supper

You might think this picture was taken late at night, knowing how much East Villagers love their late-night gelato, but it wasn't — it was taken just before 6:00pm a few weeks ago, when it was still dark at that hour.

This is the beloved Gelarto, on Avenue A and East 9th Street, where you get not only gelato, but art!

Art too.

It's very popular with East Villagers, as you can see from this queue extending around the corner:

Around the corner.

I bet it was free gelato night. Why else would East Villagers be eating gelato at supper time?

Gelarto Mural Update

Do you remember the messed-up mural on the wall outside the beloved Gelarto, on Avenue A and East 9th Street?

Of course you do.

Efforts were finally taken to fix it!

Behold, ten days ago:

Fixing the mural.

When I passed by again this past Saturday, I saw that it was finished:

Finished.

I guess it's an improvement — it's not worse than it was!

White Like Vanilla Gelato

Do you remember this building on the corner of Avenue A and East 9th Street, and our campaign to have the trim painted cerise?

Of course you do!

And do you remember this past April, when work began on a new store! Well…

This building came one step closer to completion last week, with the removal of the construction fence and the revelation of…  newly-painted street level walls:

White building.

There's now a gelato store called the beloved Gelarto. Here is a close-up of the front:

Cool lighting, and they kept the Invader mosaic!

Now all that's left is this ugly-ass mess, on the 9th Street side:

It might be too late for a new campaign to have it painted cerise, but something has to happen here!
