Old News Is Good News

I've written about the beloved Moishe's Bake Shop, on Second Avenue, many times. This is another one of those times!

Since the time of my last post on Moishe's, the owners finally — finally! — replaced the horrific-looking windows that were scarred beyond repair! The new glass looks so spiffy and clean:

Moishe's Bake Shop New Sign

Recently, the beloved Moishe's Bake Shop on Second Avenue replaced their sign!

Here is the new sign:

This sign gets !!! out of !!!!! exclamation points — it's nothing special, but the kerning is good!

Because the building itself is so deteriorated, they didn't put a lot of money into the sign. Here are some close-ups:

These are the little flourishes that make Moishe's so beloved by East Villagers, one and all!

Sign of the Times

The building that houses Moishe's Bake Shop, on Second Avenue, has been undergoing renovation recently. My suspicion is that the owners are preparing to sell it.

While their main sign is down, they've taped this one inside the door:

You have to hand it to them — they have a sense of humor: The bottom of the E is missing here just as it is from their regular sign!

Since this is taped to the door, is it up all the time, even when they're closed? That could cause some confusion, especially when East Villagers are turned out of the bars at 4:00am and want to eat some pastries!

Also, you'll notice that the angle of the words "Support Our Neighborhood Stores" is different than its bounding rectangle.

It's the sign of the times… in the East Village Today!

Moishe's Stained Glass

East Villagers are very excited about the renovations taking place at Moishe's Bake Shop on Second Avenue!

I passed by tonight, after work, and saw they've made a lot of progress:

An amazing discover was made while stripping away the decayed building materials. On the far right side, there is a stained glass window.

Moishe's Bake Shop Update

I was walking up Second Avenue yesterday, when I decided to pass by Moishe's Bake Shop again, to see if anything new was happening, after they took down their sign the other day.

They were open this time, so I went inside. While waiting to be served, I noticed this:

Ceiling collapsing.

Their ceiling is collapsing!

I asked what happened to their sign. The woman behind the counter said it was being fixed, but what is there to fix on that sign? It needs to be replaced:

Moishe's Bake Shop Sign

Back in October, I first wrote about Moishe's Bake Shop, especially about how deteriorated it was.

Today, I passed by and saw this:

Moishe's sign is gone.

The sign is gone, and the awning is on the ground, exposing further deterioration behind where it was.

The building that houses Moishe's looks like it's about to collapse — it's separated on the right side, from the building beside it:

Ah, there's nothing wrong with it a coat of paint won't fix — this is the East Village!

Moishe's Bake Shop Open?

Yesterday, I wrote about Moishe's Bake Shop on Second Avenue.

The East Village has two looks: deteriorated-closed, and deteriorated-open. You could be forgiven for thinking Moishe's was abandoned:

Next time I go by that place, I'm going to have money on me! Who cares about DeRoberti's closing? Look at that!

You could be forgiven for thinking Moishe's was abandoned:

Moishe's Bake Shop

Moishe's Bake Shop is the Ray's Candy Store of Second Avenue. It's a store that sells good stuff, people like it, but the owners make it look bad.

Dreadful-looking bakery.

Where do you even begin with this place? The bottom of the E is missing in BAKE, so that it looks like BAKF. The awning is ripped to shreds. But probably the worst is the conditions of the windows:

It just baffles me why people let there storefronts deteriorate like this. But…
