Circus Performers

Not all East Village artists are sculptors, some are performers. And not all East Village performers are performance artists, some are… circus performers!

I was walking through Tompkins Square Park this past Thursday, when I saw them.

Observe:

When they make it to the Cirque du Soleil, remember that you saw them here first… in the East Village Today!

No Place to Hide

Last week, I took pictures of some people performing or rehearsing some kind of performance thing in Tompkins Square Park.

A couple of days ago, I was in the park again, and they were back, with a different performance or rehearsal:

East Villager performers rehearsing.

This time, they had a sign up saying who they were:

Sign.

I wonder if this is the The Living Theater, whose co-founder, Judith Malina, recently died?

This guy was getting more than his share of nipple shots!

Follow me on Instagram!

And away they go:

Wait for me!

It was very Kazuo Ohno!

There's always something exciting going on… in the East Village Today!

Some Kind of Performance Thing or Another

I was walking through Tompkins Square Park yesterday, when I happened upon some kind of performance thing or another:

Some kind of… etc.

The couple in front slowly walked to this position from opposite sides behind the pyramid group, who were already in place.

Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night…

I continued on my way through the East Village, taking more pictures. When I passed through the park again, on my way back home, they were engaged in a group hug:

Watch your hand there, mister!

A little bit of performing, a little bit of hugging, all in one convenient location: the East Village Today!

The Human Statue

I came around the corner from St. Mark's Place onto Avenue A yesterday, when I saw this:

The human statue.

She was completely immobile! I took a picture from the corner and kept walking but she never moved, so I took another picture, which is the one above.

Even as I passed her, she didn't move. I'm pretty sure it was a performance-art piece!

Art is everywhere… in the East Village!
