Statues in Glass Houses

I was walking up Avenue B this past Saturday, when I spotted this at St. Brigid's church:

Someone wanted this statue to be outside and was afraid it would be stolen or desecrated, so they put an enormous bullet-proof shield around it. And two plants inside, to keep up the oxygen level!

It must be a pretty important statue to go to this expense to view it publicly.

Maybe it's an authentic replica of the Pietà!

Definitely Bats in This Belfry!

I was walking through Tompkins Square Park this morning, when I heard the preparatory chimes of St. Brigid's church bells on Avenue B. The "ding-dong-ding-dong" – "ding-dong-ding-dong" – "ding-dong-ding-dong" that precedes the hour being tolled. Then the tolling of the hour.

The problem was that it was only 8:45!

St. Brigid's belfry tolling the hour, fifteen minutes early.

What's up with these crazy bells?! They must have bats in their belfry!

East Villagers love to mess with time.
