Repaired Awning

For as long as this blog has existed, the awning above the doorway of The Saint, an apartment building on St. Mark's Place, has been damaged.

Every time I pass by, I check to see if it's been repaired. For a year and a half since I wrote about it, it hasn't been.

Well, this past Saturday, I passed by again:

Awning repaired.

It's hard to say if it looks better — I guess they were out of smoked glass at the glass factory!

Smashed Awning

I was walking across St. Mark's Place last Sunday, when I saw this, at The Saint:

Smashed awning.

Here's a close-up:

I mentioned in an earlier post that I thought this building had an auto-repair mechanism, but it seems I was wrong!

What's more, this awning has been in this condition for a long time. You can see it in this post about this building's balconies.

Living with dilapidation… in the East Village Today!

The Bottom Step

Sometimes things happen so quickly in the East Village that I don't have time to write about them before they change again!

Here's an example: I was walking down St. Mark's Place on Tuesday morning, when I saw this:

Messed-up step at The Saint.

The bottom step at The Saint is messed up.

But then… passing by again on Thursday, I saw this:

Fixed step.

It's like the building has an auto-repair mechanism!

Fixing up the East Village, one step at a time!
