This is crazy —

I was walking up The Bowery yesterday morning, and I took this picture of a mosaic of Andy Warhol on the side of the beloved The Standard hotel:

…and I had this whole story written in my head about how to the right of the mosaic there were these tiles that are now missing, and how Andy Warhol was not from the East Village, and how he never lived here, and how East Villagers love people from outside the East Village, and how no one from the East Village ever becomes famous… all of it true!

But then, this morning I was waking up The Bowery again…

Well, take a look:

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can take down murals of famous non-East-Village artists. There is a pestilence upon the East Village Today!

Fall Has Fallen

Fall has certainly fallen!

Today, while walking across East 4th Street, I saw this alley that leads all the way to East 5th Street, with a big, yellow tree at the end of it:

I made my way to Third Avenue, the western boundary of the East Village, and I noticed this tree with hangy things in it, that I took pictures of in one of my first posts, about The Standard hotel:

The Standard

I was walking around the East Village today, taking pictures, as I do, when I passed by a relatively new hotel on Third Avenue and East 5th Street, called The Standard.

The name of the hotel is upside down, which is anything but standard!

This is the view through their front door:

This is an alleyway leading to a restaurant called Narcissa, beside the hotel. "Farm to table"!

The restaurant is named after a character from the Harry Potter movies, Narcissa Malfoy.

I should go in next time. Taking pictures of the insides of restaurants is part of what I want to do here.

These people were in the garden beside the hotel:

On the 5th Street side was some sort of statue and some hangy things:

And! Some guy, sitting in a chair. I don't know if he works there, or is a guest, or what. He was just sitting there, with his back to the window, never a good thing to do.
