The areas marked in orange are "areas of interest", and looking at them I can tell there are no surprises here!
The good people at Google Maps explain it all here — of particular note is this:
We determine “areas of interest” with an algorithmic process that allows us to highlight the areas with the highest concentration of restaurants, bars and shops.
