As if a (grim) reminder is needed, this is why bread products should not be left untended, as seen on East 7th Street this past Thursday:

Bagels in the gutter.

Even the birds won't touch them!

I was walking down East 7th Street yesterday morning, at approximately 10:10am, when something caught my eye outside the beloved East Village Cheese — a box of untended bread products:
