Cleaning Up The Cheese

It looks like someone finally started cleaning out the garbage left behind when the formerly-beloved East Village Cheese closed, back whenever that was:

Cleaning up the mess.

I wonder if they had to wear hazmat suits to protect themselves from the rotting cheese?

Cheesey

The formerly-beloved East Village Cheese, on East 7th Street, after being abandoned by its owners in the middle of the night, has yet to be cleaned out:

Still-stocked shelves.

This is what it looks like in front:

Unchanged.

It's quite possible that the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation landmarked this look for future generations — handmade signs and all!

Untended Bread Products

I was walking down East 7th Street yesterday morning, at approximately 10:10am, when something caught my eye outside the beloved East Village Cheese — a box of untended bread products:

Here is a close-up of the box:

Are bread products just left out on the street like this, open and untended, to later be sold, and… eaten?

How unsanitary!

The Final Days of East Village Cheese?

Q: What do 1980s punk-rock clothes and cheese have in common?
A: No one buys them any more.

Well, I don't know if no one buys cheese, but rumor has it that the beloved East Village Cheese on East 7th Street will soon be out of business!

Soon to be out of business?

It's just a rumor — no announcement has been made — but just as with the new location of Trash & Vaudeville, most times the only people in the store are the ones who work there. They've also stopped accepting debit/credit cards!

You won't stay in business for very long in the East Village if you only accept cash — it's positively feudal!

East Village Cheese

I was walking across East 7th Street yesterday, when I saw this:

East Village Cheese.

The beloved East Village Cheese is famous for filling up its window with signs so you can't see inside.

More recently, they're famous for disappearing from their location on Third Avenue and appearing at this one on East 7th Street, with no notice — one day, they were just here!

Weird things abound… in the East Village Today!
