Unseemly Things

I was walking in the East Village somewhere where the pavings stones are like the ones below, when I saw this very colorful, dead bug:

Dead bug.

I'm pretty sure it's a Japanese Beetle.

Why don't you ever see these things flying?!

Bugs

I was walking across East 4th Street yesterday, when I saw this abandoned cup of orange juice on the sidewalk, with what looked like a bug in it.

Bug in the juice.

On closer inspection, I saw that it wasn't a bug.

Not a bug.

No one wants to drink juice with bugs in it!

Rodent/Bug Free

The sign on the wall of this building at 231 East 4th Street reads:

Please put your trash in the garbage can.
Keep our building clean and rodent/bug free!

Good luck with that! This place looks like the rodents come from the inside.
