Probably Gone By Now

At the time I took this picture, back in early February, this addition to the graffiti wall on First Avenue was new.

By this time, it's probably already gone.

New, then.

Here today, gone tomorrow!

Maybe.

Probably.

Tiny Little Wooden Diorama

East Villagers are so accustomed to the Graffiti Wall on First Avenue being covered with graffiti and graffiti stickers and sometimes posters that many probably did not notice this tiny little wooden diorama:

Here it is in context:

See? It's tiny!

A Moveable Wreath

Regular readers of this blog will surely remember the picture of the abandoned Christmas wreath — even more will wonder what happened to it!

Back in March, I was walking across East 5th Street, when I saw it inside El Jardin del Paraiso:

Inside El Jardin del Paraiso.

That would surely be its final resting place, I thought — mulched and mixed with rotting kale to become compost — but was I wrong!

Behold, this past Saturday on the East 2nd Street graffiti wall:

Christmas wreath graffiti.

Either that or it's a different one.

Still, what are the odds of seeing two dying Christmas wreaths hanging in the same neighborhood? Pretty remote, I'd say!

East Village Parents Respond

Back in December of 2016, I was walking down First Avenue, when I saw this graffiti message:

Graffiti message.

Well, East Village parents beg to differ!

East Village parents know that no matter what else anyone might think about it, it's illegal. They don't want to have to go pick up their kid from the police precinct, or the morgue!, for something like doodling on a wall.

East Village parents also know that most graffiti is like the stuff above: scribbles — it looks bad.

Most importantly, East Village parents know that the propellants in spray cans, and the compounds in paint pens, are toxic. One of the biggest problems graffitiers face is becoming addicted to the fumes, and later, when the fumes no longer do the job, to stronger drugs like heroin.

In conclusion, East Village parents do understand street art, and say: "You kids be safe — and don't make a mess!"
