Free Cone Day

East Villagers love ice cream — you know this by the number of ice cream shops in the neighborhood.

The most recent to open, Ben & Jerry's, on St. Mark's Place, declared today, April 10, Free Cone Day.

Behold:

Free Cone Day.

If you didn't believe me about East Villagers loving ice cream, take a look at these pictures I took on my way home from working today:

Waiting for ice cream.

I'm… waiting for my ice cream man…

Almost there.

The other beloved ice cream shops in the neighborhood should take notice — the only thing East Villagers love more than ice cream is free ice cream!

Welcome Ben & Jerry's

Back in the good old days, around 2015, the East Village had its own Pinkberry's. Then it closed.

Luckily, we now have our own Ben & Jerry's — and in the same location!

In the same location.

There can never be too many ice cream shops in the East Village!

Festive Trash

I was riding my Citibike down Second Avenue recently, on my way home from work, when I stopped at a red light, beside this trash can:

Trash can.

The first thing I noticed was the partially-eaten ice cream cone! Who throws away the cone — a waffle cone at that?!

The next thing I noticed was the festive wrapping paper. Suddenly, I knew the answer: a kid!

The wrapping paper sure makes the trash look festive!

TD Ice Cream Truck

I was walking up Avenue A yesterday, when I saw a line in front of what looked like an ice cream truck, except for the color of the paint (PMS 391 and 5535), that turned out to be an ice cream truck after all!

Behold:

Where else but in the East Village do banks give away ice cream, without having to open a checking account?!

Promoting awareness of ice cream… in the East Village Today!

Ray's Candy Store

There's a candy store on Avenue A called Ray's Candy Store. At least, that's the name — it doesn't specialize in candy. It sells lots of stuff, and people seem to like it — it gets good reviews from Yelp.

I've only been in twice. Once I got an egg cream, and the other time I got an ice cream cone.

The only issue I take with this store is that it looks like a dump:

There's no reason for it to look this way. Get rid of that piece of garbage in front, take down the hand-made signs, clean the place up a bit…

I bet his sales would improve over night if he did that, or had someone do it for him, in exchange for some ice cream, and maybe some Belgian fries.
