A Fine Job

One of the benefits of the recent "Grinding Existing Asphaltic Concrete Wearing Course Project HW2CR16B" is that the pavement was raised.

Behold, on East 4th Street:

Raised pavement.

Now the water from the street is able to come up onto the sidewalk. Before, when it rained, the water used to run down the street and into the sewer, causing major localized flooding!

Also, East Villagers are less likely now to be splashed by a passing car!

Taking Pictures of Localized Flooding

The phenomenon of localized flooding is one East Villagers are all too familiar with — uneven pavement, poor drainage, and the fact that the East Village was built on a swamp all contribute to this problem!

I was walking down Third Avenue recently, when I happened upon another instance of this flooding. I was going to wait for this fellow to move out of the picture, but then I saw that he was taking a picture of it as well!

The only thing better than a picture of localized flooding is a picture of someone taking a picture of localized flooding… in the East Village Today!

Localized Flooding on Avenue A

This morning, before I left for work, I checked Weather Dot Com, and saw that from 7:00–9:00am, localized flooding was predicted for Upper New York Harbor. That's us!

It didn't take long before I saw evidence of exactly that:

Localized Flooding

The first snow of the season brought with it some localized flooding, as seen here on East 4th Street:

You can tell it's flooded because of the reflection of the car. Also, those leaves in the front are floating on top of water, they're not just piled up there.

If it freezes tonight, this guy won't have an easy time of it tomorrow!
