Take Down Those Lights Update

When I posted the story "Take Down Those Lights" onto Twitter, for the benefit of my many Twitter followers, I @'d the New York City Parks Department, hoping to spur them into action:

Well, let me tell you, they wasted no time taking down those lights!

No more lights.

Next on the list: get them to replace this deformed tree with a nice one!

Park Reclamation

Recently, the Parks Department workers at Tompkins Square Park sealed off the area heretofore occupied by crusties, brought in wood chips, and started the process of reclaiming the ground the crusties defiled.

Here is a picture of the spread-about wood chips:

Here is a picture of the fence that keeps the crusties out:

The fence.

Crusties don't go onto this side of the grassy area because they don't like the sun. I mean, they're probably OK with the sun itself, but they don't like sunlight to touch them.

It's almost that time of the year when the crusties will be heading south for the Winter — just like the ducks!

Remove the Brown Spot

I had this idea back in October, and I had it again today, while passing through Tompkins Square Park: I'm going to send a request to the Parks Department to remove the stones from where the gimpy elm used to be, to make a circular area around the existing tree, instead of the ovular area that exists around the remaining tree and a brown spot on the ground.

Here are pictures of the area in question:

The brown spot is the area where the gimpy elm used to be.

Here it is from another angle:

I sent a suggestion to the Parks Department to do this, with a modified version of the picture above:

Ring around the elm tree.

I'll let you know what they say!
