Recycling

East Villagers love to recycle.

Everyone knows that when you recycle, you have to separate items of one type from items of another — that includes separating green wood chips from brown, as seen this morning in Tompkins Square Park:

Naturally, you have to separate your plastic too!

Blurry Pile of Wood Chips

It's not every day you see a big pile of wood chips on the sidewalk, it's even less common to see one so blurry!

Still, here it was this morning, outside Le Petite Versailles Garden, on East 2nd Street:

Blurry pile of wood chips.

It's hard to know what they're for, or how long they'll be there.

One thing is certain: next time I pass by, I'm putting on my glasses!

Park Reclamation

Recently, the Parks Department workers at Tompkins Square Park sealed off the area heretofore occupied by crusties, brought in wood chips, and started the process of reclaiming the ground the crusties defiled.

Here is a picture of the spread-about wood chips:

Here is a picture of the fence that keeps the crusties out:

The fence.

Crusties don't go onto this side of the grassy area because they don't like the sun. I mean, they're probably OK with the sun itself, but they don't like sunlight to touch them.

It's almost that time of the year when the crusties will be heading south for the Winter — just like the ducks!
