Strange & Wonderful Things

Not only miracles occur in the East Village, but other types of strange and wonderful things, too.

This ice pile on East 4th Street seems to have formed by itself, being located near no bars nor restaurants:

Naturally-forming ice pile.

On East 10th Street, locals can offer no explanation for this water draining away from a mound of salt pellets:

Water from salt.

Maybe we should be called The East Village Zone?

The Blizzard That Wasn't

East Villagers woke up this morning to the sad news that the National Weather Service had cancelled the Blizzard Warning, replacing it with a Winter Weather Advisory.

What, it's Winter? Thanks for the advisory! There are East Villagers who had to use a vacation day for this!

Well, waste not, want not. Here are some "before" pictures.

The beloved The Shape Of Lies, on East 7th Street, put down plenty of salt on the sidewalk:

Plenty of salt.

East 5th Street, snowless:

Snowless East 5th Street.

Even the fire hydrants were preparing, as witnessed on Avenue A at St. Mark's Place!

Behatted fire hydrant.

This is the second fire hydrant I've seen lately wearing human attire — I see a trend developing!

Snow is snow, so I'll have plenty of snow pictures soon. After all, East Villagers are on vacation today!

Assalted

You might not think that the job of an East Village blogger is dangerous, but… Whoa mama! Is it ever!

Just this past weekend, I was assalted on Second Avenue!

I was walking down Second Avenue, when a salt truck went by, spewing salt. One of the chunks hit me on the shin!

Ow!

And look what happened to my boots:

Assalted boots.

These are new, too!

(They're Ecco. They're waterproof, lined with GoreTex — very nice! And… I got them on Amazon for only $170 — they're $250 at Macy's!)

Here's a picture of the stupid salt on Second Avenue:

Stupid salt.

At least drivers don't have to worry about icy streets, while I limp home to wash my boots!
