Record Spotting

I was riding my Citibike across East 6th Street last week, on my way home from work, when I passed these people rummaging through boxes and boxes of records on the sidewalk:

Rummaging through boxes.

Coincidentally enough, other people were doing the very same thing, directly across the street, at the beloved A-1 Record Shop:

The very same thing.

If you ask me, stamp collecting would be a more interesting hobby!

Record Explosion

I was walking across St. Mark's Place this past Saturday, when I saw a sign announcing a record explosion — East Villagers love exploding records!

Record Explosion sign.

Looking at this sign, even with the arrows, I couldn't see where the explosion was taking place, so I walked around to the other side:

The other side.

The arrows were no help!

From this side, I could see more records — barely enough to make a proper bonfire, let alone an explosion!

Not enough records.

I have to conclude that "explosion" was an over-statement.

Maybe the sign should have read: Last chance for me to make a few bucks on these records before I abandon them here!

Record Store Day

One week and one day ago was Record Store Day.

To commemorate that, here is a picture of the beloved Academy Records, on East 12th Street, taken one week and one day ago:

Academy Records.

You can see by the crowd that East Villagers don't buy records. Still, Academy Records is beloved because, you know… it's a store!

Abandoned Records

There are places in New York City where the vinyl recorded-music-conveyance medium is romanticized, but not in the East Village!

Witness this, seen yesterday on East 9th Street:

Abandoned records.

East Villagers are at the head of the curve when it comes to recorded music — no more scratch crackle pop here!
