After The Miracle

I was walking across East 4th Street — oh, about 17 days ago — when I saw this overturned wheelchair:

Overturned wheelchair.

No doubt, earlier, this was the scene of a miracle, where some wheelchair-bound individual stood up and walked, and didn't bother to return his wheelchair for someone else to use, or get his deposit back!

Either that, or someone popped a wheelie and rolled off the back, and kept on rolling, which is pretty miraculous itself, if you ask me!

Wheelchair Accessibility

Last week, I reported that the beloved Vazac's was now wheelchair accessible.

In that story, I mentioned the beloved Manotiba's also being wheelchair accessible. Today, I have proof:

Proof of Manitoba's wheelchair accessibility.

Unlike Vazac's, that has no way for the wheelchair-bound patron to alert the staff inside of their desire to enter, Manitoba's has a bell that can be rung for assistance!

Staying one step ahead of the competition… that's the East Village Today!

Vazac's is Now Wheelchair Accessible

East Villagers will no doubt be excited to learn that the beloved Vazac's Bar, on Avenue B and East 7th Street, directly across the street from a children's playground, is now wheelchair accessible!

I was walking by this morning, when I saw this:

Vazac's with new, blue signs.

Here is a close-up:

The beloved Manitoba's (across the street and down a bit) recently became ADA Compliant, but they don't have cool signs like these!

It waits to be seen how someone in a wheelchair will request assistance, or from whom,  or if the door is even wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair — but they certainly are nice signs!

Crusty in a Wheelchair

I was walking across St. Mark's Place a couple of days ago, when I saw this collection of orange cones:

Collection of orange cones.

I didn't know why I needed to take this picture, other than the sheer number of cones, and the fact that they didn't seem to be guarding anything as large and their circumference. But something told me to do it.

It wasn't even the wheelchair, which I saw when framing the picture:

Not the wheelchair.

I kept walking, thinking I'd probably delete the picture when I got home, when I saw this, on First Avenue:

Crusty in a wheelchair.

At first, I didn't make the connection. I just thought "Wow, that crusty must have pretty good insurance, if it pays for a wheelchair"!

As a postscript, their companion was none too please with these two's shenanigans:

None too pleased.

Neither was his dog!
