Dumpster Delivery

There are some East Villagers who are not deterred by even the likes of Winter Storm Cato. I am talking about the truck drivers:

Dropping off a dumpster on First Avenue.

You can't see him, because he got back into his truck just before I took this picture, but you can believe that he's there!

It might even be Hugh Rowland!

Poco Closed?

I was on my way home from work this afternoon when I passed by Poco, the popular restaurant on Avenue B and East 3d Street. I was hurrying to get home before the full brunt of Winter Storm Cato bore down on the East Village, and therefore my head, but I stopped to take this picture:

Poco closed.

As you can see, Poco is closed. I thought that perhaps the recent assault on their sidewalk caused such distress for the owner that he/she decided to shutter permanently!

I even checked inside the wind-guard doors:

Definitely closed.

When I got home, I looked online, only to discover that they don't open until 5:00pm during the week.

False alarm!

First Avenue Bike Lane

The bike lane on First Avenue, just above East Houston Street, is cold and wet, as Winter Storm Cato bears down on the East Village:

Most East Villagers are inside their apartment now, taping up heavy-duty plastic to their windows, to keep out the cold air.

Foretold is Forearmed

One of the amazing benefits of being a gypsy is that you can see into the future!

On East 3rd Street, this psychic foretold that her signs would blow away during Winter Storm Cato, so she chained them up:

Guarding against Cato.

The chairs, on the other hand, either won't blow away or she doesn't care if they do.

Such are the vagaries of gypsy life… during a winter storm in the East Village!

Before the Deluge

Bewildered.

People sometimes get bewildered during a winter storm, and have been known to stand in the middle of the street. Like Clouseau, they don't know from which direction Cato will attack!

Winter Storm Cato

Winter Storm Cato is blowing into the East Village, even as I write this! This picture is of East 3rd Street, beginning to ice up:

For those who don't know, Winter Storm Cato is named after Inspector Clouseau's assistant, Cato (not to be confused with The Green Hornet's assistant, Kato). Cato was hired by Clouseau to attack him by surprise, to keep Clouseau ever-vigilant.

In this same way, Winter Storm Cato is attacking the East Village, to keep us Village-ant!
