Funk To Funky

Do you remember a tree that's been
In such an early post?
It's been a while since I took a look at this funky tree, outside the beloved Clayworks Pottery on East 9th Street.

This is what it looked like back in November 2014:

Dead or dying tree in November 2014.

I found myself on East 9th Street again and wanted to take a picture of Clayworks, to comment on their spiffy new paint job:

Spiffy new paint job.

That's when I noticed that the tree there now didn't look like the tree from 2014.

I had to be sure, so I went back and took new pictures last month:

It's different again! The only similarity is the metal cuff around the base.

Why do they do that?!

Festive Yellow Chain

East Villagers are very clever at disguising building disrepair!

Walking across East 2nd Street yesterday, I saw this yellow chain blocking the entrance to this building:

Blocking the entrance.

At first glance, I thought it was just a festive, yellow chain, but on closer inspection I saw that there were no supports for the handrails!

No support on the right side.

No support on the left side.

I wonder if anyone tried to get out, saw the chain, and went back inside? They might still be there!

Mecca Is Here

East Villagers certainly remember the formerly-beloved Mecca of Hair on First Avenue. It was like Mecca, except for hair!

According to this sign outside the beloved Perfection Barbershop on Avenue C, Mecca is here now:

Be here now, like Mecca.

If you're wondering what Perfection Barbershop looks like when closed, it looks like this:

Perfection closed.

Yellowy!

Yellowish

I was walking across East 3rd Street this past Sunday, when I happened upon what looks all the world like a relatively new paint job:

Relatively new paint job.

The way the bicycle stood out against the yellowishness of the paint made me take notice.

And the rest is history!

They Call Me Mellow Yellow

I didn't even notice that the newspaper boxes were all yellow when I took this picture today, on East 9th Street, at the corner of Avenue A.

A Springy Fall day.

I saw this woman as we met at the corner, but it was too late to get a front-facing picture, and I didn't like the angle anyway (sour grapes!).

I took this picture, then crossed the street and hastened my step, so as to pass her, then turn around and come back and get a picture facing her, but she went into a building! Drat!

The coat by itself would have been worth the picture, but the yellow hair made it the perfect funky East Village outfit!

And the yellow boxes? They don't really matter. They're just coincidences. The picture would actually be better without them.
