Filming and Filming

Hot on the heels of filming Jonathan on East 3rd Street, more filmmakers are filming more films in the East Village!

Except this is not a movie, it's a TV show — and it's not called Jonathan, it's called The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel sign.

This next picture will come as a surprise to East Villagers, because it's a bar scene being filmed not at the beloved Vazac's!

The bar beneath the black tarp is the beloved Josie's Bar, on East 6th Street, famous for having a statue of a bear in front of it, that you can't see because of the black tarp!

But fear not, Vazac's has not been ignored! It's just been rebranded as Milston's Tavern:

Here is a close-up:

And for added effect, they built a subway entrance right outside!

In real life, there couldn't be a subway station there — the East Village was built on a swamp!

New Line

I was walking up Second Avenue this past Sunday, when I saw this sign, taped to a lamp post:

New Line Productions, Inc.

As you know, East Villagers are always excited when this neighborhood is used to film TV shows, and films! Drivers move their cars hours in advance — tow-truck drivers rarely have to move anything!

True to their word, the film crew was set up along East 4th Street, Monday morning:

Set up Monday morning.

I think it's a film about the new Second Avenue subway line, hence: New Line Productions!

It's done with CGI… in the East Village Today!

Sag Fail

I was on my way to the F train at the Second Avenue station, when I saw these pants on the stairs:

Pants on the stairs.

How does someone lose their pants, I wondered? Then it came to me: sag fail!

So, let this be a lesson: pull up your pants, East Villagers!

Photographers of the East Village

The East Village is probably the best neighborhood in all of New York City for photographers — everywhere you go, there's something to take a picture of. As a result, photographers can be seen everywhere!

I saw this photographer, and her assistant, last night, at the top of the First Avenue entrance to the F Train:

Photographer and assistant, outside the First Avenue F Train station.

I don't know what their subject was; the camera was pointed directly at the advertisement atop the railing. People exiting with the ad behind them? Traffic moving with the ad in front of it? The ad itself? Who can say?

All that can really be known is that more great pictures of the East Village Today now exist, to spread East Village coolness to the world!

Subway Riders vs. The Polar Vortex

The Polar Vortex is no match for these East Village subway riders, who brave all manner of weather conditions to get to work:

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor Polar Vortex stays these East Villagers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds!

Meet Taylor Swift

The Subway sandwich shop on First Avenue between East 6th and 7th Streets had a competition to meet Taylor Swift!

Meet Taylor!

Unfortunately, it ended at midnight November 16.

Did you know Taylor Swift is donating all of her proceeds from #WelcomeToNewYork to New York City Public Schools?

East Villagers love Taylor Swift!
