Tearin' It Up

I was walking down upper Avenue A recently, when I saw this assemblage of signs and barricades directing people around the sidewalk repairs taking place there:

Signs and barricades.

Look at that teeny-tiny lamppost in there — that's so considerate!

Considerate.

You know what's weird? Why would they leave the tree guard in place?

Tree guard in place.

Not just once, but twice:

Twice.

Once again, this is the perfect time to replace these trees with artificial ones.

Write your representatives and tell them: No more live trees!

Windy Fall

It certainly has been a windy Fall!

I was walking past Cooper Union, on The Bowery, when I saw the barricades, usually standing, had been blown down:

Blown down.

It's a good thing the crusties weren't asleep there when this happened — they might have been crushed!

Blocking The Way

By now, the snow has almost all melted away, but a mere twelve days ago, the snow and its effects were still very much with us!

Here is a picture of a Con Edison barricade, and a Lift Plow Blade sign, blocking the pedestrian crosswalk that had previously been cleared of snow, at the corner of Avenue A and St. Mark's Place:

Blocking the pedestrian crosswalk.

If you are wondering how I knew it was a Con Edison barricade, this is how:

Repairing Your Steam System.

It's hard to know how this barricade wound up where it did, blocking the pedestrian crosswalk — it's even harder to know where it's been keeping itself since February of last year!

Directly across the street from this one was… another one!

Another one.

East Villagers can only hope that this improper use of barricades does not impede the repair of our beloved steam system!

Protecting The Pizza

East Villagers who venture outside the confines of the neighborhood are no doubt familiar with the barricades that exist to protect famous buildings.

The beloved Two Boots Pizza, at the corner of Avenue A and East 3rd Street, deserves no less!

Guarded by barricades.

As this close-up shows, at least one attempt was made to breach the barricades:

One attempt.

Naturally, someone stuffed litter into it!

Barricaded Log

Even though there is a tree guard in this picture, this is not a story about tree guards.

This is story about how some East Villager put a log into a tree bed outside the beloved Social Security Administration office on East 12th Street, and how some other East Villager (probably) put a barricade beside the log, to keep people from tripping over it!

Don't trip over the log.

If they had put string or ribbon across the tree guard, that barricade wouldn't have been necessary!
