Chucked Corral

I was walking along East 6th Street a couple of weeks ago, when I saw this bicycle, still chained to this bicycle corral, in the dirt past this fence:

Still chained.

Here is a close-up:

Close-up.

What can be known is that those locks held up admirably! When the thief could not remove the bicycle from the corral, he just tore the corral out of the sidewalk. Walking away from the scene of the crime, discovering how difficult it is to carry a bicycle corral with a bicycle still chained to it, he chucked it over the fence.

Whoever owns this bicycle needs to replace the right pedal — it's might rusty!

Falling Apart

When you walk around the East Village, one of the first things you notice is that the area is falling apart.

Here is one example, that I saw outside the local Duane Reade on Avenue B this past weekend:

One example.

As if the falling-apart tree guard isn't enough, there's a dismembered bicycle right next to it!

At least it's locked to a bike corral so no one can steal it!

Dirty Bike Corrals

Everyone knows that East Villagers love to ride their bicycles. And when they're not riding them, they lock them up in bike corrals, like this one on Second Avenue:

Something I noticed while walking to work yesterday, is the very messy condition of this particular bike corral:

Here's another view:

Another view.

Even the bicycles themselves look like they belong here — the grit and grime of the city still survives… in the East Village Today!

City Bikes

Not every assemblage of bicycles in the East Village is a Citibike station. On East 4th Street, these bikes are locked up in a Bike Corral, to racks called CityRacks, installed by the Department of Transportation:

East Villagers are serious about biking!
