Ti Amo

Snow always brings out the best in East Villagers, as can be seen in this picture taken across from the beloved Key Food on East 4th Street:

Ti amo yourself!

The good feelings did not diminish overnight, as can be seen by this picture taken Thursday morning, outside the beloved Fine Fare, on Avenue C:

Smiley face.

I wonder if these two cars being parked outside of grocery stores had anything to do with it?

Nah!

Jumbo-Sized Sprinkles Bottle

Who in their life would have thought sprinkles could come in bottles larger than what you can use in one cookie-baking season?

Behold, as seen in the beloved Key Foods, on Avenue A and East 4th Street:

Jumbo-sized sprinkles bottle.

It is truly a thing of beauty.

The Bratwurst Test

How do you know East Villagers are (almost entirely) from the Midwest?

Because on July 4, at the beloved Key Food on Avenue A and East 4th Street, the Johnsonville Original Bratwursts were gone, leaving only Stadium Brats — pre-cooked!

Stadium brats.

No true (Midwestern) East Villager would buy pre-cooked bratwursts!

Aisle 2

Sometimes people ask me, they say: "Hey East Village Today, where's the best place to get lunch in the East Village today?"

Naturally, I tell them: "Aisle 2 at (the beloved) Key Food", on Avenue A and East 4th Street!

Check this out:

Aisle 2.

You've got tuna, you've got root beer, you've got chips and dip — everything you need for a great lunch — all in one aisle!

Why would anyone go anywhere else… in the East Village Today?!

Citibike Station Missing

East Villagers were in for a rude awakening when they woke up November 1 to find that not only were their clocks moved back one hour, but the Citibike station, lovingly known as Bike Station 5626.07, at the corner of Avenue A and East 7th Street, outside the beloved Yuca Bar, was missing:

Citibike station 5626.07, missing.

This story might have ended sadly-enough there, but yesterday, I, while biking from the beloved Porto Rico Importing Company to the beloved Key Food, forgot that this station was missing, and had to park at another station!

Gloom, despair, and agony… in the East Village Today!

Avenue A Farmers Market

This past Sunday, I took a stroll past the beloved Avenue A farmers market, on Avenue A. I needed to buy some tomatoes. These looked pretty good:

Good-looking tomatoes.

$5.00 a pound?! That's crazy!

I looked around a bit more, and saw these radishes:

Radishes (and other stuff).

I love radishes — but then I saw the price:

The price of radishes.

$4.00 a bunch?! That's crazy!

Needless to say, I didn't buy any vegetables here. I went to Key Food, where both items were half of what the farmers charged! Also, they had a sale that day on pickles — I bought an 80-ounce jar for — brace yourself — $4.00! Cucumbers at the farmers market were $1.00 each!

East Villagers love saving money! (And pickles!)

Tuna Shortage

East Villagers love tuna, and they love to save money! So when Key Food on Avenue A had a sale on solid white tuna, it was inevitable:

5/$5 means no tuna.

I would have bought six cans at that price! Unfortunately, it was all gone by the time I got there.

Let this be a lesson: keep your eye out for those weekly circulars, because these sales are advertised… in the East Village Today!

Key Food Christmas Tree Rack Update

The other day, I wrote that a Christmas tree rack was assembled outside Key Food, on Avenue A and East 4th Street.

It didn't take long for them to fill it with Christmas trees:

At the same time, another Christmas tree rack was assembled and filled at the Bueno East Market, a block away, on East 3rd Street:

There's a lot of graffiti on Bueno East Mart.

Let the price war begin!

Christmas Tree Rack at Key Food

From some time in the near future until probably Christmas Day, you will be able to buy a Christmas Tree after your groceries, at Key Food on Avenue A at East 4th Street:

Setting up the Christmas Tree rack.

It might be a tight squeeze here for a while, but East Villagers don't mind — East Villagers love Christmas!
