Flamingo & Watermelon

The beloved Chi Snack Shop, on St. Mark's Place, has come a long way since their humble beginnings back in 2016.

Today, with their pink storefront, and their inflatable outdoor seating, there's even more to love!

More to love.

Sporting the colors of East Village Today, no less!

Wobbly Table For One

I will never stop being amazed that people sit at outdoor tables on top of cellar doors!

Here is the most recent example I saw last Sunday, at the beloved Bakeri, on East 6th Street:

"Finally, I'm in East Village Today, and it's on top of cellar doors!"

Yeah, it's just a bad idea.

Elevated Table

Back in May, when I wrote about East 7th Street without cars, I was so moved by my ability to take wide-angle pictures of buildings that I failed to notice the table in front of the beloved Rose and Basil was no longer sitting on AstroTurf!

It wasn't even sitting on the cellar doors!

Behold:

Elevated table.

It's still weird, sitting over cellar doors, but the table and chair probably don't wobble as much now — instead, it'll probably roll down the sidewalk to the curb!

Could I get this to go?

Sitting on the Sidewalk

One of the strangest outdoor seats is at the beloved Via Della Pace, on East 7th Street:

Strangest outdoor seating.

There are railings surrounding everything in front of this restaurant except the table, the edge of which sits flush with the sidewalk.

Also, there's no room to move once you're sitting!

This is made all the stranger by the fact that Via Della Pace is also the site of the coolest outdoor seating in the East Village!

New Wave in Outdoor Seating

I was walking up First Avenue recently, when I happened upon this interesting little enclave:

Interesting little enclave.

This belongs to the beloved MáLà Project, a Chinese restaurant (you can tell by the lanterns!)

Outdoor seating with no tables, that doesn't take up space on the sidewalk — what will they think of next?!

Jennifer Cafe Outdoor Seating

Back in November, I wrote about the beloved Jennifer Cafe, on East 4th Street, a small protuberance from the outside wall of the beloved Guayoyo, a Venezuelan restaurant on the corner of First Avenue.

Jennifer Cafe now has outdoor seating:

Outdoor seating.

This is very special seating, too: your mouth is at the same level as the food, eliminating the necessity of having to lift your fork!

East Villagers love to conserve energy!

A Perfect Storm of Love

I may have mentioned that East Villagers love eating outside, and graffiti, and open doors, and dogs!

So when you add all these things together, you get this, that I saw on East 7th Street the other evening:

A perfect storm of East Village love.

It just doesn't get any better… in the East Village Today!

Best Outdoor Seating Ever

East Villagers love to eat at sidewalk cafes! So great is their love for this that some will even sit on top of rickety cellar doors!

Personally, this table at Via Della Pace on East 7th Street is more my style:

More my style.

You're elevated, surrounded by iron railings, there are flowers overhead, there's a door behind you that you can keep closed, there's even a plastic tube to drain the water away from the air conditioner so it doesn't drip on you! They've really thought of everything!

This setting wins the Best Outdoor Seating Ever Award from, you guessed it… East Village Today!

Tink's Revisited

About a week ago, I posted some very cool nighttime pictures of the outdoor seating at Tink's, a popular restaurant on East 7th Street.

At the time, I asked: Who would sit there? Today, we're one step closer to knowing that answer:

Sitting outside at Tink's.

A second table with two chairs has been added, for those who want to sit outside, but not on top of the cellar doors! The wooden chairs are gone.

If you ever sit here, take a selfie and send it to me. I'll post it here… on East Village Today!

Tink's Outdoor Seating

I don't have anything to say about these pictures I took on East 7th Street ten days ago:

Tinks.

I just liked them.

Here's a close-up:

Close-up.

OK, now I have something to say: Who would sit there?

No one, I guess — no one is!

Around the Corner

This is around the corner from Bar Primi, on East 2nd Street, just in from the East Village side of The Bowery:

Some are living, some are not.

Some of them look pretty haggard. Maybe they didn't survive life on The Bowery. Maybe Primi is installing outdoor seating along 2nd Street, and these will form the perimeter? Anything is possible.

East Villagers love to eat outside!
