Local Starbucks Is Safe

There's a joke in the East Village that if you turn the country on its side, everything loose will roll to California.

Ha ha ha ha ha!

This morning, East Villagers learned that in California, local Starbuckses have to label their coffee as cancer-causing.

First off, how do you label coffee? Wouldn't it make more sense to label the cup?

But what if you get hot chocolate, or tea? The cup would be misleading. They'll have to have two types of cups from now on!

Luckily, the local Starbucks, on Avenue A and St. Mark's Place, won't have to do this.

East Villagers can continue to enjoy their coffee without scary death faces on their cups!

Starbucks Immortalized

It sure didn't take the local Starbucks long to join the ranks of the beloved!

I was approaching St. Mark's Place last Friday afternoon, when something caught my eye:

My eye was caught.

The new Starbucks has been immortalized in the beloved Mosaic Trail:

Immortalized.

That might have been the fastest addition ever!

Lego Starbucks

I was walking past the new, beloved Starbucks on Avenue A and St. Mark's Place about nine days ago, when I saw this Lego Starbucks sticker attached to a lamppost:

I wonder if the same person did this who's been doing the Lego Man stickers?!

New Signs & Stuff

Have you ever seen a nicer Starbucks sign?

New sign.

It reminds me of something I would have done when I was a kid, with the wood-burning set I got for Christmas!

They also added lights to the outside, as you can see — the new lights shine onto the stippley name:

Lights shining.

Every day, in every way, it's getting better and better!

Welcome, Starbucks!

Today, September 1, is the official opening day of the beloved Starbucks, on the corner of Avenue A and St. Mark's Place!

Here is a picture from this morning:

It really blends into the surrounding environment!

Next To Starbucks

With all the hubbub going on next door, and the soon-to-be-beloved Starbucks, it's easy to forget that some other new, soon-to-be-beloved store is opening up on St. Mark's Place!

On the day I passed by (two weeks ago), they had just received their new cellar stairs and base:

The door was open:

…so I took a look inside:

Inside.

It looks like they still have a long way to go!

It's hard to say what it will be, but being next to Starbucks, it's bound to be popular!

Progress At Starbucks

There has been a lot of progress at the soon-to-be-beloved Starbucks, on Avenue A and St. Mark's Place!

Here is the green mermaid-head sign, taken one week ago:

At the time I took this picture, the name had yet to be painted onto… the place where they paint the name.

Three days later, it was there!

Walk, to Starbucks.

It's stippley!

There was a small tear in the plastic covering the door, so I took a picture inside — it's mostly reflection, but you can see inside a little bit:

A little bit.

The minutes are ticking down to the grand opening — if I pass by that day, I'll be sure to check out if anything is free!

Coffee War Brewing

The last time there was a coffee war in the East Village was when the beloved Cafe Pick Me Up moved from Avenue A and East 9th Street to a space next to the beloved East 9th Street Espresso, on East 10th Street. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fray!

Today, on Avenue A and St. Mark's Place, another coffee war began, between the beloved Mud Coffee (on East 9th Street near Second Avenue) and a prospective Starbucks!

Mud workers were in attendance:

"Am I getting paid to do this?"

…as well as free Mud Coffee:

Mud? It was ground this morning!

Seth MacFarlane showed up to hand out signs:

Sensing the possibility of a riot, the police turned out in number:

The local news station showed up too:

PIX11 News.

They positioned themselves across the street:

"The crowd could be heard chanting: 'Who's coffee? Our coffee!'"

By the time I left, many on-lookers were looking on:

There's no news yet on when the rally in support of Starbuck's will be held. I'll keep you posted!

Local Starbucks Fixes Sidewalk Café Railing

I was walking up Second Avenue yesterday, when I passes the local Starbucks Coffee. Their outdoor railing was on the ground:

Local Starbucks with railings on the ground.

I thought to myself, as I passed: That railing extends beyond the distance allowed for sidewalk cafés!

All sidewalk cafés must maintain a minimum clear path of eight (8) feet between the outer limit of the café and any object near the curb, including the curbstone. When a sidewalk is wider than 16 feet, the amount of clear path must be 50% of the distance from the building to the curb line.

Today, I passed by again, and saw that they had fixed the situation:

Keeping the sidewalks clear… in the East Village!
