Chase Cash Mob

When businesses in the East Village start to fail, residents come to their aid by fomenting a cash mob. What this means is that people go to that business on a designated day and spend money, cash, to help the owners.

The beloved Chase Bank is one such business that needs our help!

During the past year, two branches of Chase Bank closed, leaving only the one on Second Avenue and East 10th Street.

Fortunately, there were still Chase ATMs at the beloved Duane Reade drugstores on Avenue B and Avenue D.

Recently, this changed.

Behold, at the Avenue B Duane Reade:

Chase ATM replaced by Allpoint ATM.

…and at the Avenue D Duane Reade:

The same thing.

Why this matters is that the Allpoint ATMs charge a $3.00 fee for withdrawals!

$3.00 fee.

If this keeps up, the East Village will be inundated with payday loan, pawn shops, and other shady establishments!

This is why East Village Today is organizing a cash mob for Chase Bank!

Go to the Chase Bank on Second Avenue and East 10th Street this Saturday, February 25 — open a checking account, sign up for a credit card, get an auto loan…

Free coffee and Dum Dum Pops!

Help keep Chase Bank in the East Village!

  1. This is a joke right? Chase literally has $100 billion dollars in annual revenue. Why not focus on one of the actual small businesses that is suffering?Ridiculous

  4. This goes against the whole point of a cash mob. If it's really that much of a hassle. Close your Chase account (it really takes 3 seconds, i closed mine a few weeks ago for this exact reason) and open an account at another bank like Santander or Capital One on Ave C. This has to be a joke.

    1. This is an effort by the community to save not just its banks, but its fee-less ATMs — that's at the heart of cash mobs!

  5. Chase will also charge if you make too many withdrawals in a month from an atm.Any bank that you have a checking account will not charge for atm use. There are other banks such as Capital One. If you have a bank account in any bank, you can get a withdrawal from a tell when the bank is open, so think ahead.

    1. Your point is well taken — if we lose our ATMs, we will have to reorganize our lives, including carrying cash instead of debit cards. I, for one, do not relish this idea!

  6. How about supporting your Credit Union. Open an account at the LES People's Federal Credit Union. They are located at Avenue B and 3rd Street

    1. The credit union has only one location — Chase has more than 5,000, all across the country! That's a lot of no-fee ATM usage!

  12. The very next time I read a blog, Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint me as much as this particular one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read through, but I genuinely believed you’d have something useful to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you can fix if you were not too busy seeking attention. nudesy
