Perimeter Fence

Regular readers of this blog will no doubt remember the post A New Fence, that I posted yesterday, about the new fence being put up in front of the Orchard Alley Community Garden, on East 4th Street.

In that post, I mentioned a perimeter fence that would be erected during the installation of the new fence. Today I have a picture of that perimeter fence:

Perimeter fence.

Do you see how the sun glistens off the yellow leaves and yellow caution tape? Truly beautiful!

For those who want to see more of the perimeter fence, I prepared a video. Enjoy!

The Demise of East Village News

East Village Breaking News is a web site that until about two weeks ago posted articles of local interest. They are part of a larger network called The Breaking News Network, which covers cities across the United States, and the world!

The way it worked was you signed up with them, then when you posted an article on Twitter using the hashtag #EastVillage, they forwarded the tweet and posted the article on their web site. This way, someone looking for news and stories of interest about the East Village could find everything in one convenient location!

Then, disaster struck! Someone in the organization empowered to make such decisions decided that they would eliminate anything of local color, and repost only "news" items, from recognized news sites.

So today, the only stories you find on East Village Breaking News are from three sites: DNAinfo; the Lo-Down; and The Villager. That's it!

Only three sites.

I contacted them about this but they did not respond, so today I sent this:

Tweet to East Village Breaking News.

East Villagers are sad — sad! — at this recent development… in the East Village Today!

A New Fence

The residents of East 4th Street, between Avenues C and D, were surprised this morning to wake up and find that the fence in front of the Orchard Alley Community Garden was being taken down:

Fence being taken down.

But fear not, East 4th Streeters — the fence is being replaced! The new fence will look more like the nice fence down the block in front of Parque Tranquilidad (photo compliments of Google Maps!):

Parque Tranquilidad fence.

While work is taking place, a perimeter fence will be erected to protect passers-by:

Hopefully, they will level the soil, that rises up nearly six inches at the front:

Nearly six inches.

Making the East Village a better place for everyone, once fence at a time!

Photographers

The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade isn't just fun for the dogs, it isn't just fun for the dog owners, it's fun for photographers too!

This is the one day of the year that everyone is a photographer, as you will see here:

East Villagers are already counting the days until next year's dog parade — it's 365!

East Villagers love the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade!

Frustration

As regular readers of this blog know, I don't like to complain, but I will say that sometimes it's frustrating being an East Village photographer!

This is just a small sampling of what I mean:

But it's for a worthy cause, so I persevere!
