Regular readers of this blog will surely remember the beloved Avenue C Deli Corp — who doesn't remember the day their door was closed?!

I was walking past there, oh, about eight days ago, and it looks like their door is closed forever now:

It's weird how they only took half their awning with them — it's even weirder how beneath their awning was a much cooler sign: Los Muchachos Supermarket!

I passed by again a few days later, and saw signs of activity:

I thought about crouching down and taking a picture under the plastic tarp, but I didn't know if there was a vicious guard dog inside!

East Villagers are keeping their fingers crossed that an exciting new shopping venue opens here soon!

I was walking up The Bowery the other morning, when I saw this malformation at the East 6th Street crosswalk:

Broken Frame

East Villagers all know that everything looks better framed — that's why a picture is so much more interesting than the subject itself!

But what happens if the frame breaks? I was walking across East 3rd Street the other morning, when I saw this:

Duelling Photographers

I was walking across St. Mark's Place yesterday, when I passed by a photographer. There's nothing unusual about that! He was talking on the phone to someone, saying he was working on a project in New York, blah blah blah. Nothing unusual about that either!

Regular readers of this blog know that I have to take pictures of other photographers, so I did!

Behold:

A photographer.

I tried to pretend I hadn't just taken his picture, by fiddling with my phone-camera, but photographers have a sharp eye, and he was not to be fooled! While I was fiddling with the buttons on my phone, he sidled along to my left and took a picture of me!

But photographers have a sharp eye, and I knew what he was doing, so I looked up and grinned just as he snapped his picture!

"Nice phone case!" he said, before we parted.

"Thanks!" I said.

Photographers are very congenial… in the East Village Today!

Employees Only

I was walking up Avenue C the other day, when I saw an open cellar door in front of the beloved Perfection barbershop. Nothing special about that, I said to myself, until I got closer!

Behold:

Have you ever seen such a tidy cellar?! — and a door, like the one you had growing up as a kid!

In case you can't read the sign on the door, it says Employees Only.

It's important to let people who enter your cellar know which areas are restricted… in the East Village Today!

Massive Kitty Litter Spill

East Village riders of the uptown F train were surprised as ever yesterday morning to see this massive kitty litter spill on the formerly-beloved V-train side of the platform:

No one knows how this happened, but the rats had better stay away from here — there's sure to be a lot of cat goings-on!

…In With The New

As I wrote about a minute ago, the new East 7th Street location of the beloved Trash & Vaudeville will be free from the stair hazard that plagued their St. Mark's Place location all those years!

There are still stairs, but not the sort that make people fall and bash their shin!

They've already started preparing for their Grand Re-Opening, by painting their riot gates pink!

As East Villagers all know, black and pink is the most fashionable of the 1980s color combinations, only slightly more fashionable than black and cyan, or leopard-skin!

Out With The Old…

As I wrote before, the beloved Trash & Vaudeville is moving to East 7th Street!

East Villagers are excited as all get out to be able to purchase their 1980s rock-and-roll clothes at a new location, one without the dangerous stairs that existed at the St. Mark's Place location!

I was walking across East 3rd Street the other morning, when I saw this newly-beloved purveyor of Take Out Chinese Food – Dumpling & Noodle:

It seems like only last year that this location was home to the beloved Lord Hamm's. Maybe if Yummy was in the name, it still would be!
