Trash & Vaudeville Grand Re-Opening

It's back! After 19 excruciating days with nowhere to purchase 1970s-era punk-rock clothing in the East Village, the beloved Trash & Vaudeville is open for business at their new location on East 7th Street:

Trash & Vaudeville on East 7th Street.

I stopped by just before their announced re-opening time of 11:30 a.m., to see if a crowd was waiting outside, but there wasn't — East Villagers aren't out of bed at this hour!

The manager of the store was there, posing for the paparazzi:

Posing for the paparazzi.

Moments later, it was just another day in the East Village — it was as if they had always been there:

Just another day.

East Villagers had been hoping against hope that this new location would not have the treacherous stairs that the last location had, but to no avail. These stairs look to be potentially worse:

Potentially worse.

In closing, East Villagers didn't know it at the time, but when the beloved St. Mark's Bookshop moved from their location on the north side of St. Mark's Place, across the street to the south side, it was the beginning of the end for them.

Let's hope this move doesn't portend the same for Trash & Vaudeville — they don't even carry Sid Vicious t-shirts on their web site!

Lion of Judah Beer Store

East Villagers love beer, and they love Rastafari — that's why the beloved Lion of Judah Beer Store on Second Avenue and East 4th Street is so popular:

Not the store itself.

You'll notice there are no doors nor windows, only ventilation vents — that's because this is not the entrance!

This is the entrance:

The entrance.

(Not-the-entrance looks much nicer!)

So if you're in the mood to drink some beer, stop in at the Lion of Judah Beer Store. Why not, eh?

For Your Protection

I stopped into the beloved Alphabet City Deli & Grill on Avenue C the other day — the local deli, bakery, magazine, grocery, lotto, soda, beer, and more store — to get me a bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll. That's when I saw this:

Individually-wrapped carrots and beets.

These beets (and carrots) are guaranteed to be untouched by other beets (and carrots)!

The apples, on the other hand — forget it! Who knows what those apples could be picking up from the other apples!

East Villagers love a discrete beet (and carrots)!

East Village Chic

I was walking up Avenue C the other day, when I saw what looks all the world like a new club:

New club.

Low-key is the way to go, but you can only take that so far! So while graffiti'd plywood give the place its blighted feel, the doors are exquisite!

East Villagers love exquisiteness!

Faith Pharmacy

East Villagers are credulous people — from gypsy fortune tellers, to totems, to tree worshiping, old wives rule the roost here!

That's why East Villagers are so happy with the beloved Faith Pharmacy on Avenue D and East 9th Street:

Faith Pharmacy

If your doctor prescribes invocations, take the prescription to Faith Pharmacy — if you don't get better, well… you just weren't meant to!

Fewer Women Love the East Village

Do women not love the East Village? That's what it looks like, according to Andrew Hill, a cartographer for CartoDB, according to DNAInfo!

Mr. Hill assembled a map using information from the American Community Survey (DNAInfo said it was the 2014 Census, but the census is every ten years — the last one was in 2010)!

Anyway, take a look at this map:

Map of the East Village.

Each dot represents 10,000 women. A white dot means less than 49% of the population is female; a dark pink dot means more than 52% is female. The other dots would be 50% and 51%, respectively, according to the number line!

A very interesting thing can be seen when looking at the area East of the East Village:

East of the East Village.

More women would rather live in the East River than in the East Village!

What does this mean, for the East Village Today?!

Tha 6th Boro

I was walking up Avenue D this past weekend, having just visited the local Walgreens Pharmacy on Houston Street, when I saw this mural:

Tha 6th Boro.

It's so true — the East Village really is the sixth borough!

The residents of Avenue D have it figured out, even if they're not the best spellers!

Reserved Parking

I was walking across East 4th Street this past weekend, when I saw this parking spot reserved for… bags of cement!

Only in the East Village… Today!

East Village Parking

What is unusual about this parking job, I saw while walking across East 7th Street this evening?

Wedged in too tight.

He's wedged in too tight between two dumpsters!

What about this one?

One wheel on the sidewalk.

If you guessed it's that he has one wheel on the sidewalk, you're only partly right. What's unusual about this is that the whole thing isn't on the sidewalk!

This is just some of the types of parking you see, when walking around… the East Village Today!

Now You Worship

East Villagers love to worship, and they love promptitude!

I saw this sign, while walking across St. Mark's Place this past Sunday:

Now you worship.

Now you worship, in the East Village… Today!
