Local Blog Commenter

One of the benefits of not being a news blog is that I do not have to report on things in a timely fashion!

One such "thing" is the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade — I'm still going through my photos!

In the meantime, I have some peripherally-related videos!

Way back around October 19, I wrote: "I think it's safe to say that not one sane person dislikes the dog parade…!" Still, the dog parade is such a strong draw that even those people attended!

Witness:

He would only identify himself as a "local blog commenter"!

Not this blog though — my commenter is nice!

Distressed Doorway

East Villagers love the dilapidated look of the neighborhood. The lucky ones live on the top floor of a building with no elevator, with steam heat, and ill-fitting windows that breezes blow through!

Others, who aren't as lucky, try make their buildings look old. There are many ways to do this, like door distressing! Here is one such example I saw while walking across St. Mark's Place this past week:

Distressed doorway.

It's pretty believable when you see it in a photo, vertically. Unfortunately, the effect vanishes when you view it horizontally:

Viewed horizontally.

The new bay windows just don't complement the tarnished look of the doorway.

Unsightly Vans

I was walking across East 7th Street some number of days ago, when I saw the most unlikely pairing of unsightly vans that I've seen in quite a while:

Unlikely pairing of unsightly vans.

I mean, what were the odds — the chemistry van and the Simpsons van, together?!

East Villagers love uncanny coincidences!

It's Not Just For Kids

When people think of the East Village, they usually think of a place where young people like to go and have fun, and they're right to do so!

But it's also a place where their parents go, as seen in this picture outside the beloved East Village Wines, on First Avenue:

Your parents.

Their bus was waiting at the light on St. Mark's Place when I took this.

There's fun for everyone… in the East Village Today!

Interview With A Crusty

I was walking down Second Avenue recently, when I saw: first) the video camera setup; then 2) the people sitting on the sidewalk.

At first, I thought they were all a part of the camera crew, but when I passed I discovered that the two not sitting on their haunches were crusties!

Crusties on their butts.

They look very much like new crusties too — they're clean, and they don't have a dog!

East Villagers love watching interviews with crusties… on the YouTubes!

Indian Corn

This past weekend, I walked by the beloved Avenue A Farmer's Market, on Avenue A and East 7th Street.

I was browsing through their wares, when I saw this:

Indian Corn, $2.00 each.

Two dollars for a single cob of Indian Corn?! That's crazy!

This should be called the Avenue A Farmer's Market for Millionaires… in the East Village Today!

Colorful Citibikes

Recently, East Villagers have been treated to a whole panoply of colorful Citibikes, like these seen outside the beloved Yuca Bar on East 7th Street and Avenue A:

Red! Green! Orange! All the colors of the rainbow! On display… in the East Village Today!

Goldie S. Dreyfuss, At Your Service

When people think of the East Village, what is usually the first thing they think of? After coolness? And religious piety?

It's Certified Public Accountants with law degrees, right?!

The beloved Goldie S. Dreyfuss is one of these. Her office is on lower Avenue A:

Here is a close-up of the window:

Kavasutra

The East Village is always ahead of the curve when it comes to adulterants! This sign outside the beloved Kavasutra, on East 10th Street, is evidence:

Evidence.

Next year East Villagers will be ingesting something else, and kava will be "so 2015"!

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'… into the East Village Today!

The Jaguar

I was walking across East 6th Street last week, when I passed by this Jaguar (JAG-you-are, in England):

Open-hooded Jaguar.

That hood shouldn't be open, I thought to myself. Probably the result of a non-victimless crime!

I looked into the interior and saw the front seat forward, but it didn't seem to be related:

Front seat forward.

I  went back to the front of the car, and that's when it hit me: something hit this car:

Hit car.

Or this car hit something — one way or another, the principle that no two objects can occupy the same space at the same time was upheld!

East Villagers love the maintenance of physical laws!
