I was walking across East 4th Street this morning, when I saw this artsy garbage storage receptacle:

Artsy.

At first, it reminded me of leopard print, but then it reminded me of avocado graffiti.

One thing I can tell you: even East Village garbage is artsy!

Orange Ball

Strange but true — this orange ball on East 5th Street looks just like an orange:

Isn't it strange that the color of the fruit became the name of the fruit? It would be like calling bananas "yellows".

"Don't eat anything, I'm making supper".

"But I'm hungry"!

"Have a yellow".

"They're bruised!"

"They're fine…"

Strange & Wonderful Things

Not only miracles occur in the East Village, but other types of strange and wonderful things, too.

This ice pile on East 4th Street seems to have formed by itself, being located near no bars nor restaurants:

On East 10th Street, locals can offer no explanation for this water draining away from a mound of salt pellets:

Maybe we should be called The East Village Zone?

Yet Another Miracle

If you're crippled and can't walk, you owe it to yourself to make a trip to East 4th Street, where the blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, etc.

One month ago to this day, I wrote about the aftermath of a miracle that took place here.

This morning, I beheld another such aftermath.

Behold:

Newly-abandoned crutches.

I'm not sure how keen I am about the dead being raised, though. I've seen Walking Dead.

If you're dead, you should stay away from East 4th Street.

You shouldn't even be reading this blog!

Worse In The Snow

Even a winter wonderland of snow can't make everything in the East Village look better.

Take this chair, for instance, on St. Mark's Place. Arguably, it could be said to look worse in the snow:

Winter Wonderland of Snow

East Villagers woke up this morning to discover… it was snowing!

During the past two officially-declared winter storms, Winter Storm Skylar and Winter Storm Toby, we got almost no snow. Today, with no official designation, we got all this!

A Blue Door

You don't see too many blue doors in the East Village, especially of the wooden variety.

Here is one on East 6th Street:

They were smart to put a gate around it — no one wants someone walking right up to their front door!

Sick Tree Guard

You can say a lot of things about the tree guards in the East Village, but only one of them can be called "sick"!
