Joke In-Waiting

I was walking across East 7th Street when I saw this joke waiting to happen:

Banana.

Most East Villagers don't think people slipping on banana peels is funny, but some do — the mean ones!

Scratch 'N Sniff

There aren't too many things in the East Village you would want to scratch and sniff, especially when they're stuck to the door of an abandoned store front, like this one on Avenue B:

Stuck to the door.

When it's bananas and hearts though, it's hard not to!

Scratch and sniff.

These scents were brought to you by Visitor Ralph — Call Ralph, for all your scratch-and-sniff needs!

Banana On A ParkNYC Meter

The banana is the most photographable fruit, bar none! There are no bad angles!

Behold, on top of a ParkNYC Muni Meter on Avenue A, a couple of weeks ago:

Behold.

The banana is not just the most photographable fruit, it's the most versatile: you can pretend to talk on the phone with it, you can use it to imitate a monkey, you can even decorate an album cover with it… it's endless!

By comparison, on the other side of the sidewalk were these cabbage leaves:

Cabbage leaves.

Really — why did I even take the picture?!

Banana On A Fence

Long ago, I had a blog, and one of  the features of that blog was a series called "Banana Peels", which consisted of pictures of… you guessed it: banana peels!

I thought about that when walking across East 4th Street recently and spotted this banana on a fence:

Banana on a fence.

It's funny to think that this banana once grew on a tree in Central America, was picked, shipped to North America, and made its way to the East Village, only to be abandoned on this fence.

Ha!

Bananahead

Sometimes when I'm walking around in the East Village, I see things that remind me of something else, so I take a picture of it. I might not even have anything to say about it — it's just that it reminds me of something.

That's what happened this morning, as I was walking to the F Train at First Avenue. I saw this, and it made me think of a bananahead:

Bananahead.

I'm suddenly thirsty for some cold pressed juice. It's so delicious!
