Meme Mods

East Villagers love it when their favorite graffitiers exhibit their memes in unconventional fashion — it keeps them from getting stale!

One such example occurred over the recent Independence Day weekend, when the Missing Foundation meme was displayed in duct tape fashion on Avenue A:

Duct tape fashion.

What is that, a quarter?

Nope.

Rats!

Another variation is the red-on-black sticker:

Stickers are cheap, and easy to put up. Also, they don't destroy someone else's efforts to find work!

Duct Tape Can Fix Anything

"My old man taught me duct tape could fix anything…"
                          —Sturges, Sanctuary Hills
The beloved Caffé Bene on St. Mark's Place seems to have taken Sturges's words to heart, that duct tape can fix anything, as could be seen this past Saturday:

Duct tape can fix anything.

Soon the tape will turn the color of the sidewalk, as pedestrians track their feet on it, and no one will even know it's there.

East Villagers love quick and dirty repairs!

Metro Newspaper Box Now Secure

I was walking down Avenue C the other day, when I saw this:

Metro newspaper box bound in duct tape.

The Metro newspaper box was bound in duct tape! My guess is that this box was having a rough time remaining upright during the recent snowpocalypse, so the delivery man attached it to the lamppost with the roll of duct tape that he just happened to have on hand.

Smart thinking… in the East Village Today!
