Better Call Ana

At the beginning of the month, I wrote about the appearance in the East Village of the very cool VW microbus pickup truck. At that time, I speculated that its owners might already be in Mexico!

If they did go to Mexico, they're back now, because yesterday I saw it on St. Mark's Place again, this time parked mostly in front of the beloved Physical Graffitea, but partly in front of the beloved Big Steve's Fun City:

Back on St. Mark's Place.

Seeing how much space there was in front of it, I took a picture of the front of it:

Front of it.

Here is a picture of the load it was carrying: an air conditioner, and a shopping bag that matches the color of the truck:

What's in the shopping bag, you ask?

Ribbon.

Ribbon!

By now, you must be wondering: "Where can I find a cool pickup truck like this in the East Village today?"

Well, wonder no more!

Where to find a truck like this.

For the coolest car since the cool old pickup truck… better call Ana!

The Lone Citibike

Sometimes people say to me, they say: Hey East Village Today, does the East Village ever remind you of the wild, wild west?

And I tell them: Yes siree, bucko!

Here is an example: a Citibike at the curb, just as a horse would be hitched up to a hitching post outside a cantina:

Lone Citibike.

This Citibike is parked outside either the beloved Asian Body Work or the beloved Physical Graffitea, on St. Mark's Place, on a Sunday morning in early June.

The East Village is like a ghost-town on Sunday mornings in early June — all that's missing are the tumbling tumbleweeds!

Physical GraffiTea

Over on St. Mark's Place, between First Avenue and Avenue A, there is a building that is a "must see" on walking tours of the neighborhood, due to the fact that it's pictured on the cover of an album by a band called Led Zeppelin.

Here's the cover:

"Physical Graffiti" album cover.

Led Zeppelin was popular in the 1970s, with songs like "Stairway to Heaven", which was the anthem of a generation in the years before "Freebird".

Today, this store is all that remains of that time:

Physical GraffiTea.

East Villagers bring the past to life with store names!
