Marvelous Library

Yesterday morning, I was walking across East 7th Street, when I saw this array of abandoned books:

Why would someone lug these books all the way to this spot and not put them into the dumpster, I wondered? They probably had trouble lifting them.

This morning, I passed by again, in the rain:

This time, someone added this sign:

So these books were dumped here by a neighbor of Felix Caro, local book hoarder!

She describes the pile as "a marvelous library" — let's take a look!

The problem now is, with the dumpster in the way, the Sanitation Department workers won't be able to cart these books away to the dump!

Weird Windshield

This sure is a curious phenomenon that I noticed, walking across East 3rd Street last month — there is more rain where the wiper blade travels across this windshield than there is where it misses!

Behold:

This may not have anything to do with being parked in the East Village, but it's on par with most of what happens here!

Securing The Fence

I was rounding the northeast corner of Tompkins Square Park this past Friday, during the rainstorm I mentioned in an earlier post, when I saw this:

It's a padlock!

It's comforting to know that the fence protecting Tompkins Square Park from theft is itself protected from theft!
