The Bean

The East Village's favorite coffee chain is the beloved The Bean, so when they moved into the Third Avenue and Stuyvesant Street space vacated by the once-beloved St. Mark's Bookshop, a loud shriek of rejoicing went up!

Shriek!

The only thing better than a cup of coffee is a cup of coffee with a clever celebrity name, such as:

The Frozen Nona Lisa.

I think this is half Nona, half Mona Lisa — the Frozen part is because they add ice to it!

Bam.

Babe Ruth hit the ball so hard, it made a sound like an explosion. Now it's coffee!

nutElla Fitzgerald.

Who doesn't like their coffee black, strong, and with a scoop of chocolate/hazelnut spread?!

Mother TeReeseA.

You got your chocolate/peanut butter cup in my tea! You got your tea on my chocolate/peanut butter cup! Three great tastes that go great together — and a nun!

And to top it all off, they're mosaics!

The Mosaic Trail continues…

FDEV

After a busy day of putting out fires, the East Village Fire Department likes to slam down a few coffee drinks at the beloved The Bean, on First Avenue and East 9th Street:

Slammin' down some joe.

Mispl-aced Hyphen

I was walking up First Avenue this past Friday, when I saw this sign at the corner of East 9th Street:

Misplaced hyphen.

This sign is outside a popular coffee shop called The Bean.

I wonder if the chalker was instructed to put the hyphen in the wrong place? Maybe that's how the copy sheet was prepared? In my experience, copy sheets should never be used for formatting.

Pushing the grammar envelope… in the East Village Today!

The Lights of The Bean

Walking past The Bean this morning, on First Avenue, I noticed something peculiar about their sign: with only a couple of exceptions, all of the colored lights were extinguished!

Most colored lights are extinguished.

Only the white lights are illuminated (mostly)!

East Villagers love their faux-dive look! (But seriously, are lightbulbs so expensive?)

Painted Buildings

Some businesses don't fix their decrepit signs, others paint like there's no tomorrow. Here are two examples of the latter:

The Bean, with a cool sky.

Korilla, future barbecue site.

If the paint job on The Bean is any indicator, Korilla will be immensely popular!

East Villagers love their artistic expression!
