Place Invaded

This place on East 4th Street was invaded last week by this graffiti van:

Graffiti van.

Place Invaders is their name, and invading places is their game.

The name is a clever play on "Space Invaders", an old-timey video game that East Villagers played in their youth, before moving to the East Village!

Call Place Invaders, for all your place invading needs!

Shredded Signs

By the looks of it, someone doesn't like signs taped onto this lamppost on St. Mark's Place:

Shredded signs.

It's hard to tell where the lamppost ends and the van begins!

What's the Buzz?

November 14 was the first birthday of the beloved Jodo Bee, the official graffiti insect of the East Village!

I first became aware of the bee back in April, in this post. Since then, there have been others.

This is the most recent, since it contains this van, seen on October 12, on East 4th Street:

Jodo Bee van.

…and this mural, from ten days ago, on a wall in the First Street Art Park, on East 1st Street:

A year old already — time sure flies!

Grin With A Cat

East Village van-owning artists love to turn their vans into roving works of art!

Here is one I saw this past Saturday, on East 9th Street:

Cheshire Cat van.

Of course, no work of art is complete without a heap of refuse in front of and on top of it!

Heaps of refuse.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” said Alice.
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where…” said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
“…so long as I get
somewhere!”
“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”

Words to live by… in the East Village Today!

New Cool Van

A new cool van has entered the East Village!

I saw this parked on East 4th Street this past Saturday:

Parked on East 4th Street..

The word on the side, in green, is "doves". You might wonder how I know this; the answer is: I'm quite clever!

Here is the other side of the van:

There's always room for new cool vans… in the East Village Today!

Unsightly Vans

I was walking across East 7th Street some number of days ago, when I saw the most unlikely pairing of unsightly vans that I've seen in quite a while:

Unlikely pairing of unsightly vans.

I mean, what were the odds — the chemistry van and the Simpsons van, together?!

East Villagers love uncanny coincidences!

More Cool Vans and Trucks

This past Sunday, I spotted a few more cool…vehicles, shall we say? Trains, planes, and automobiles (but no trains or planes)!

This van was on St. Mark's Place:

When I went around to get a picture of the other side, I espied this:

Van vendor.

A little later, on First Avenue at East 13th Street, was this truck:

Big eyes!

There's always a lot of crazy things to see… in the East Village!

Painted Vans

Yesterday was the day of painted vans. (It was also the day of low-pressure events, but I've already covered those!)

I saw this one on East 7th Street:

Tripped-out van.

This one was on East 9th Street:

In front of my favorite building.

I know what you're probably thinking: that I silhouetted that van in Photoshop and laid it over the West Virginia building, just so I could post another picture of it, but no, that van was really parked there!

Stranger things have happened… in the East Village!

Camou-Van

Walking along East 5th Street tonight (almost all of my pictures tonight were on East 5th Street!), approaching First Avenue, I spotted this van:

Camou-van.

Hard to believe, right? Camouflaged vans should be difficult to spot!

Parked very near by was another painty van:

Two painty vans almost side-by-side.

From the other side:

Another view of the two painty vans.

Funky but chic!
