Icing the Sidewalk

Today, as I was walking across East 9th Street, I saw someone outside the famous Crif*Dogs icing down the sidewalk!

Making the sidewalk slippery.

Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing tonight — be careful when you walk by there!

Doritos Truck Spotted on Second Avenue

Yesterday, in a post about the brothel Horus, a Doritos truck was seen in the reflection of the picture.

Today, the same Doritos truck was on Second Avenue!

East Villagers love Doritos!

Tour Groups Stop at Chase Bank

Chase Banks are very popular in the East Village! So popular that tour group leaders have made them a must-see stop on the tour:

Chase Bank on Second Avenue at East 10th Street.

I could hear what was being said, something about 90-day Certificates of Deposit!

Mongoose vs. Cobra

I was walking up Avenue B this morning when I happened to spy East Village artist Jim Power drag racing a truck!

The truck pulled away from the East 6th Street starting line pretty quickly and Power was never able to catch up.

Drag racing is very popular on the back streets of the East Village!

Inside Former Snack Dragon

On November 12, I took pictures of the inside of the former Snack Dragon, a hole-in-the-wall (literally) eating place on East 3rd Street. Today, it's empty, and looks like this:

Tiny little place.

You have to wonder how anyone operated out of this place!

Whoever moves in will have some fixing up to do, although they might not fix anything — East Villagers love this kind of motif!

Christmas Tree Rack at Key Food

From some time in the near future until probably Christmas Day, you will be able to buy a Christmas Tree after your groceries, at Key Food on Avenue A at East 4th Street:

Setting up the Christmas Tree rack.

It might be a tight squeeze here for a while, but East Villagers don't mind — East Villagers love Christmas!

Broken Umbrellas Like Dead Birds

This morning, on Avenue A, between East 6th and 7th Streets:

Do You Want Paint With That?

Look at how a very small amount of paint can make a place looks so much better, on East 7th Street:

At the same time, look at what the absence of paint causes, on the right side.

It's like an East Village high school science fair project on the benefits of painting.

Give that kid an A!

Happy Hour

Thanksgiving is over so quickly!

I saw this this morning, outside of Horus Cafe, on Avenue B and East 6th Street:

Hookahs?

So a bar called Horus has hookahs? Don't they usually disguise this by calling them escorts?

Tree Put Down

Some time at the beginning of the month, I took some pictures of fallen branches on the sidewalk outside El Jardin de Paraiso, on the East 4th Street side:

Branches on the sidewalk.

Branches on the ground, inside the garden.

The guilty tree has been dead for a while.

Then, this past week, the tree was cut down. Sections of the trunk lay in the street along the curb, with yellow caution tape around them. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me to get pictures. (Can you believe it?!) It was at night, anyway.

Today, I got a picture of the newest addition to Paraiso: Stumpy!

Stumpy holding a potted twig.

Say Hello to my little friend!
