Baby Christmas Trees

Whereas today is the sixth day of Christmas, the day of six geese a-laying, it is unlikely you will be able to purchase one of these baby Christmas trees, previously sold outside the beloved Village Farm Grocery, on Second Avenue:

Baby Christmas trees.

These are the sort of trees you buy, don't decorate, then throw away the day after Christmas, along with the stand, as can be seen in this picture, taken the day after Christmas, on the corner of Avenue B and East 7th Street:

Throw-away baby Christmas tree.

I'm not sure if the chair is from the same apartment or not. Probably, since anyone who throws away a perfectly good Christmas tree stand would probably throw away a perfectly good chair just because a wheel fell off!

Nice Chair

Sometimes, when you're walking around the East Village, you get tired and want to sit down.

Luckily, a chair is never far away, such as this one, on East 6th Street:

Not far away.

It even comes with its own bird seed, in case you forget yours at home!

Sit And Charge

There are two things you should always do when you have the chance: pee; and sit down — you never know the next time you'll be able to again!

In 21st-century East Village, "charge your cell phone" has been been added to that list!

Here, at the LinkNYC kiosk on Second Avenue and East 4th Street, you can accomplish two of these at a time:

Two at a time.

All this corner needs now is an outhouse!

Pull Up A Seat

Wherever you go in the East Village, you will almost always find a place to sit down!

Behold, as seen on Second Avenue at East 12th Street:

Seating for one.

The view is nothing to write home about, but you can throw away any litter you have easily enough!

Abandoned Matching Couch and Chair

I was walking across St. Mark's Place yesterday afternoon, when I saw this abandoned couch by the curb, with three shadowy figures standing beside it:

Abandoned couch.

I know what you're thinking now: That couch doesn't match anything — but wait!

Matching chair.

There's no telling why they were abandoned in separate locations, or why the couch was placed parallel to the street and the chair was left willy-nilly.

So next time you're on St. Mark's Place, set a spell! Take your shoes off! Y'll come back now, y'hear?!

Leany Chair

It's a chilly day in the East Village today, so I before I don me now my Fall apparel and head out, I'm going to post this picture from warmer times:

Warmer times.

Woah — it just struck me: it's another abandoned chair!

Abandoned Chair Epidemic

Recently, the number of abandoned chairs in the East Village has reached epidemic proportions!

Until now, they've mostly been confined to East 4th Street. However, this past Saturday, I saw this newly abandoned chair, in front of the formerly-beloved art gallery Dorian Grey, on East 9th Street:

Abandoned chair.

There was a sign on this chair:

Cool FREE CHAiR:
Clean – no bugs

Maybe it didn't have bugs on it when it was first abandoned but I'll bet it does now!

Yet Another Chair

It seems like only three days ago that I was writing about the abandoned chairs of East 4th Street, and here we have yet another:

Yet another chair.

At this point, it hasn't joined up with the other two, down the block, but give them time.

Chair of a feather flock together… in the East Village Today!

The Moving Chair

I was walking across East 4th Street this past Friday, when I saw this abandoned chair in front of the El Jardin del Paraiso:

Abandoned chair.

Fast forward one day, and it's half way down the block, united with another abandoned chair!

The chair couple.

If they keep up this pace, they'll probably be on Avenue D by tonight!

Another Chair

I was walking up First Avenue somewhat recently, when I saw this abandoned chair, at East 2nd Street:

Discarded chair.

The last time I saw a chair like this was August 7, the day of the great Tompkins Square Park sleep-over!

You could easily outfit your entire apartment just by collecting the furniture East Villagers discard — many people do… in the East Village Today!

Free Chair

If you're thinking of attending the punk rock concert this weekend, or visiting the people sleeping on East 7th Street, but you don't want to stand, you might be interested in this chair, on the corner of Avenue A and East 7th Street:

Free chair.

There are two things you should always do when you have the chance: use the restroom; and sit down — because you don't know when you'll have the chance again!

East Villagers love sage advice!
