The Parallel Bicycle

Wow.

Yesterday, for the benefit of East Village photo bloggers everywhere, I moved the abandoned bicycle chained to the street sign in front of the formerly-beloved Stage Restaurant on Second Avenue, to allow for unobstructed pictures of the formerly-beloved restaurant.

Today, I passed by there again, only to find this:

Parallel again.

Someone returned it to its former, parallel position!

It makes sense, from an urban planning perspective: it should offer the smallest profile to the flow of foot traffic — but not everything is about traffic flow. Sometimes, unobstructed views for photographers should be considered!

Won't someone please think of the photographers… in the East Village Today?!

  1. i hear what you are saying, EVT!

i occasionally photo record sewer and manhole covers, and sometimes i think i should carry a broom to sweep them clean before photographing them. then again, maybe the street detrius adds to the image?

    I-)

    1. Unless my story is about litter, I always clone out the litter in Photoshop — especially the cigarette butts!

  2. So the story is you rotated it and someone rotated it back? maybe we can all get along, rotate it when you want to a photograph like that and put it back when you are done so it doesn't block the sidewalk?

    1. Yes, that's what happened, and yes, I will move the bike back in the future, if I move it for the picture!

    1. What if it's not abandoned? What if it belongs to someone in that building? Wouldn't that be something?!
