Targeting East Villagers

There's no doubt about it, East Villagers are a marketing demographic all their own — not only are pants advertised differently here, but so is hand soap!

Check this out, that I saw on St. Mark's Place yesterday afternoon:

Hand soap ads.

Here is a close-up:

How is this targeted to East Villagers, you ask? Who else would hang their hand soap beneath electric cables that run along water pipes affixed to walls with such large holes in them?!

Pants Heads

I almost made this a part of No Parking, but I decided it deserved a story of its own!

This is a close-up of the posters on the construction wall on St. Mark's Place, just in from Second Avenue:

Pants heads.

Pants heads!

I guarantee that within the next couple of weeks, stylish East Villagers will be walking around with pants on their heads — I know I will!

Bus Shelter Ad

I've passed by this advertisement, on the outside of a bus shelter on First Avenue, a few times now. When I first saw it, I thought to myself: Only a crazy person would ever read all of this:

First Avenue bus-shelter advertisement.

It was probably one of those cases where the advertiser is contractually bound to produce a certain number of ads in a certain period of time, and the East Village had space available.

But still, whose idea was this, to slap a picture of a Leonard Cohen look-alike onto the drug-facts insert?

I wonder how this works in a magazine?!
