Beloved Junk Tables Return To Avenue A

About five days ago, I wrote about efforts to clean up the sidewalk on Avenue A in front of New York Sports Club.

The orange blockades have been moved — at the same time, the beloved junk tables have begun to reappear:

Unintended Consequences

Back at the beginning of this month, I mentioned a guy who sells books that "no one would buy even if they were the last books on the planet".

I went over to Avenue A the next day to get a picture of his table, but then I didn't post it! (You know how that goes!) As it turns out, I didn't even save it!

Recently, some East Villagers complained that the sidewalk on the stretch of Avenue A between East 2nd and 3rd Streets was being blocked. They probably intended to impinge upon the New York Sports Club, which is improving the sidewalk in front of their new facility. However, unintended consequences being what they are, this beloved street peddler felt the brunt of their wrath, when his stack of (mostly) junk was hauled away by the Department of Sanitation:

Local New York Sports Club Opens

East Villagers couldn't wait for the local New York Sports Club, on Avenue A, to open, so they could get inside and start improving their health!

The View from the Local NYSC

There's only 15 more days until the grand opening of the New York Sports Club on Avenue A! Fifteen days! East Villagers are beside themselves with excitement!

So you might be wondering to yourself: I'm sure the equipment will all be new, and the staff very helpful, but what sort of view is there from the top floor?

Well, East Village Today has special behind-the-scenes access to these types of things, and so I present to you… all the westerly views you could ask for:

New York Sports Club Opens March 2

East Villagers are really excited about the New York Sports Club opening March 2nd on Avenue A! Here is a picture of it:

This might be the first local gym to be above-ground! Others, like Dolphin Fitness on East 4th Street, and Iron & Silk on East 3rd Street, are underground.
