Don't Drink and Park

I was walking across East 4th Street recently, when I saw this terrible parking job:

Terrible parking job.

Not only is he on the sidewalk, not only is he in front of a fire hydrant, but he hit the fire hydrant:

East Villagers can't park.

Caution, Parking

I was walking across St. Mark's Place this past Sunday, when I saw this woman gathering up the caution tape that had fallen into the pile of gravel there:

Gathering it up.

I didn't understand why she was doing it, but at the same time: I didn't care!

Later, walking back home the same way, I figured it out:

Parking spot.

Parking spots in the East Village are hard to find — you have to do a bit of improvising sometimes.

I'm still not sure what the caution tape had to do with anything though.

Who Does This?

Who parks their car next to a jar of gross stuff?

Jar of gross stuff.

Here is a close-up:

What is that?!

Don't even tell me.

Upside-Down Bike Parking

East Villagers are always looking for innovative and funky ways to do things — it's part of what makes them so cool!

Here is how one East Villager parked his bike, on East 6th Street:

Upside-down.

I'm sure this is not easy to do — all the more reason to do it!

Teeny-Tiny Garage

I was walking across East Houston Street — oh, about fifteen days ago — when I noticed this extremely narrow building:

Extremely narrow building.

Why would such an extremely narrow building exist, I wondered, let alone have a door?

I was not to be left wondering for long! When I got to the other side, I found the answer:

The answer.

So the rear-door entrance is for loading the trunk, and the front entrance is for getting into the car and driving away.

I would have made it a bit wider, so the doors can open on both sides without hitting the walls. In a way, this is like parking in a public garage and having someone park too close to you!

Diagonal Parking

I was walking across East 2nd Street the other morning, on my way to the Second Avenue F Train station at First Avenue, when I saw, as I have so many times before, this line of cars parked diagonally:

Cars parked diagonally.

This is one of the few places where you can park diagonally… in the East Village Today!

Reserved Parking

I was walking across East 4th Street this past weekend, when I saw this parking spot reserved for… bags of cement!

East Village Parking

What is unusual about this parking job, I saw while walking across East 7th Street this evening?

Wedged in too tight.

He's wedged in too tight between two dumpsters!

What about this one?

One wheel on the sidewalk.

If you guessed it's that he has one wheel on the sidewalk, you're only partly right. What's unusual about this is that the whole thing isn't on the sidewalk!

This is just some of the types of parking you see, when walking around… the East Village Today!

East Village Parking

East Villagers are such an insubordinate bunch!

I was walking down East 4th Street when I saw this:

Exciting News!

East Villagers are beside themselves with excitement to learn that Violet, the code-name for A.K.A. Jessica Jones, starring Krysten Ritter, will be shooting again in the East Village!

Announcing: Violet!

To make sure they have clear shots, parking will be restricted between East 4th and East 6th Streets, from Avenue A to Avenue B.

No Parking sign.

It's a minor inconvenience, for the benefit of having the East Village as the backdrop to great TV shows and movies!

Parking in the Snow

East Villagers are known for many things: tolerance, intolerance, artsiness, drug addiction, coolness of course. One thing they're not known for is parking:

The result of bad parking.

So be careful when you're out there in the snow — these people are probably no better at driving!
