A Movable Famine

I was walking down Avenue A this afternoon, when I noticed something I had seen before, but not from this vantage point: the dereliction that once existed one block south, between East 7th Street and St. Mark's Place has moved one block north, to between St. Mark's Place and East 9th Street:

Dereliction.

Here are some close-ups:

Looking pretty shabby.

Looking pretty seedy.

Looking pretty squalid.

Only the formerly-beloved Nino's Pizza looks presentable:

I decided to walk down the block, to reminisce on the previous site of dereliction — I was not prepared for what I would find!

The Same Coin

East Village coolness is like the two sides of a coin.

One side is heads:

Heads.

and the other side is tails:

Tails.

If you look carefully, you'll see that this is the same spot, taken from two different angles!

Only one of these pictures would make it onto a brochure promoting East Village coolness — if you guess Tails, you're right!

East Villagers love squalor!

13th Street Squalor Building

I was walking across East 13th Street this evening, when I decided to shoot a video of the building I've taken so many pictures of in the past, the dilapidated graffiti building:

Yeah, that's a good one!

Another Victory

Back in December, I wrote that there is a building on East 13th Street that I could never get a picture of without a car parked in front of it.

Well, I finally did it:

Abandoned building, car-in-front-ofless.

There's new graffiti too, on the door. It looks like this cold Winter didn't keep everyone inside!

DK Lost

Today, I am introducing a new category: Abandoned Buildings.

Since starting this blog, I've taken three or four pictures of this building, and each time there was a car parked in front of it. I would like a picture of it without cars, but I don't know if that's ever going to happen.

This building is on East 13th Street, across from The Jefferson. It's abandoned, covered with graffiti, and helps to maintain the look that this block is known for.

Abandoned graffiti building.

East Villagers do love their squalor!
