Hurricane Tape

East Villagers love to conserve: money; time; resources; you name it, they conserve it!

That is why, almost three years after Hurricane Sandy, you still see tape on the windows of East Village apartments, like this building on East 7th Street:

See it?

Here's a close-up:

Close-up of hurricane tape.

Tape is supposed to stop broken glass from becoming flying glass. Many people, conserving resources, as they do, opt for cheaper, packing tape. These people were a little less conservation-minded, and went with the more expensive, and stronger, duct tape.

Once they had the tape in place, what reason was there to remove it? First of all, it's hard work, getting that adhesive off, and secondly, who's to say there won't be another hurricane some day? Why go through all that effort again when you don't have to?!

East Villagers… leading the way in hurricane preparedness!

  1. maybe they never look out that window, so they don't know that the tape is still on there?

    1. I considered that — it's a real possibility!
