They were setting up a shot down by where many of the park's drunks, drug addicts, and chess players hang out. It's a very popular area for photographers and film makers who want to show the seamy side of East Village life, that's so popular in movies and neighborhood lore!
East Villagers love their sordid, disreputable, degenerate, seedy, sleazy, squalid, insalubrious, unwholesome, unsavory, rough, and unpleasant corner of the park!
