Maintaining Coolness

I was walking across East 4th Street — oh, about two weeks ago — when I saw this Caution tape, surrounding a covered hole, and a very corroded ventilator thing:

Caution.

Beneath the surface of coolness that exists in the East Village, there is the bedrock of coolness, which is in need of constant attention if it is to remain cool.

Coolness isn't always glamorous!
