Natural Phenomena

As any East Villager can tell you, crystals often form in nature when liquids cool and start to harden. Certain molecules in the liquid gather together as they attempt to become stable. They do this in a uniform and repeating pattern that forms the crystal.

East Villagers know this because, with all the snow and cold temperatures we've had lately, we've seen it first hand, such as these crystals I saw today while walking across St. Mark's Place:

Crystals forming on the sidewalk.

The flat surfaces are called facets. They can form geometric shapes such as triangles, rectangles, and squares (seen above).

I feel like Bill Nye, the Science Guy!

    1. I didn't think it was related to the glacier, but maybe! I thought it was more of an isolated incident, like a pearl in an oyster.

    2. mmm... i think between this and the glacier, it is the start of the next ice age? because, as you know, all new things start in the east village! :-)
